MY CHILD IS NOT COMFORTABLE SWIMMING BUT I WANT HIM/HER TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM. A. The Suffolk Y JCC camps prides itself on it's swim program. We follow the American Red Cross swim curriculum which has been proven to teach skills to even the most hesitant swimmer. Our swim staff is trained to work with campers of all swim abilities, using games and toys to make children more comfortable in the water. Our goal is to have every camper progress in the pool. Swim groups are small to insure all campers have proper supervision. The aquatics department sends progress reports home every two weeks in order for parents to track their children's progress. Many campers have even competed in the Suffolk Y JCC's swim team as a result of their camp swim experience. Q. HOW ARE CAMPERS GROUPED? CAN I REQUEST TO HAVE MY CHILD BE WITH THEIR FRIENDS? A. Campers are grouped based on the grade in school they are entering in the fall. Young Adventureres, Junior, Tween and Sports Campers groups are homogenious while Wonderland, Camp Create and On CenterStage are mixed. The Suffolk Y JCC will make every effort to honor all grouping requests made on the request cards that are mailed home in the camp packet. Q. DOES THE CAMP PROVIDE LUNCH? A. We do not provide lunch at the Kaufman Camp. All campers must bring their own lunch which is refrigerated upon arrival at camp. We do provide a drink at lunchtime as well as an afternoon snack each day. We do have lunch for Wonderland, Young Adventurerers, OCS and Camp Create. The fee for lunch is $25 a week for a five day week, $15 per week for a 3 day week. Q. WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF EACH CAMP SESSION? A. The Suffolk Y JCC allows you to custom design your summer to fit into your busy schedule and budget. You can sign up for any amount of weeks! The weeks do not need to be consecutive.
